IN 2007 A GROUP OF RESEARCHERS IN UPPSALA CAME UP WITH THE IDEA OF USING CELLULOSE FROM THE ALGAE CLADOPHORA AS THE BASIS FOR A POLYMER COMPOSITE MATERIAL. THAT PROVED TO BE SUTIABLE FOR A THIN PAPERBASED BATTERY.

The prototype was tested with sensational results and the discovery of a thin, flexible, environmentally friendly battery was a fact.

In 2010 started the Enesca project in the Nordic research programme. The project is lead by Maria Strömme and the goal is to develop sustainable energy storage solutions.
